Who we are
UMS Group is an international established boutique consultancy firm specialized in the energy and utility industry with a strong recognition by the market for the thought leadership in commercial and strategic asset management. The company was founded in 1989 by Jack Shearman who is leading the business up to this day from the head office in Parsippany, NJ, USA. The US office was followed by a subsidiary in Sydney for the Asia Pacific region in 1995. In 2007 UMS Group expanded their business to Europe and for the Amsterdam based office Jan Schipper was appointed as Managing Director. In the last 5 years hubs were opened in Sweden serving the Nordics, Germany, also serving Austria and Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Our tools & data business is run from Manila, Philippines and opened its doors in 2011.
Currently the energy and utility market is going through an enormous transformation and we are excited to be part of that. The major shifts in the industry are causing the need for re-thinking strategies in the board rooms. However the technicians still have to deal with the same “old” installed asset base. This is causing significant gaps between board room strategy development and the day to day actions and decisions. At UMS group we see it as our mission to close this gap. We believe that the gap between strategy and operations can be bridged with new asset management and performance management solutions. One of the key questions to be answered in the upcoming years is how Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data will influence current business models. UMS Group helps understand board members understanding what the impact of "data driven asset management" will mean and we help implementing the transition from current to future business models.
